Sunshine Blogger Award from Extra Life

I was nominated for this award by Extra Life and what good timing! I recently thought to myself that I really suck at doing and keeping up on tags and that I would change that this year. I’ve also decided not to be lazy and actually tag people to do them so watch out motha fuckas! I’m about to annoy your pants off. I’m married to a gamer but I do not consider myself a gamer, so this should prove difficult.

In which cases would you deem the manga superior to the anime on which it’s based?

Oooo, I cannot answer this one as I don’t recall ever sitting down and reading a single manga. I’m very picky about anime as well but I have watched and enjoyed; Inuyasha, Desert Punk and Fullmetal Alchemist.

What game do you feel has the best soundtrack?

Final Fantasy VII

If you could revive a dead video game series, which one would you choose?

Fuck if I know….every game I can think of that I enjoy they’ve either remastered or have continued making games.

What game/film/album/book did you have a particularly difficult time adding to your collection?

Quite a few of the true crime books I recently added to my TBR list seem to be no longer in production. Some don’t even have ebooks available. Now I can’t think of the name of them. I’m really good at tags.

Do you prefer to see a film at home or in the theater?

I haaaate it when people talk during a movie, so my preference is at home where it’s acceptable to tell someone to shut the fuck up if they’re talking.

In what cases do you find yourself siding with critics over fans about a work’s quality?

The first thing that comes to mind is 50 Shades of Gray. I actually have no idea what the critics said about the books or the films but I hate the fandom surrounding it.

In what cases did you find yourself siding with fans over critics about a work’s quality?

Eh, you’re killing me with these questions. I really never pay attention to critics and I only listen to other people I know and respect about their opinions.

Which game series have you been following for the longest amount of time?

World of Warcraft. I played for about 7 years and I still keep up about the going ons every once in awhile but it’s been about 3 years since I played the game at all.

In what ways do you feel that video game critics are ahead of their film-loving counterparts?

In the film, everything is diluted down to fit a small time slot, where as books and games delve much deeper into the worlds. SO I would be willing to argue that video game critics are much more knowledgeable (and therefore more trustworthy) than film critics.

How does hype factor into how you ultimately feel about a work?

Too much hype tends to leave me feeling disappointed. I find when I go into something with zero expectations, my experience is much more authentic and therefore, more enjoyable.

My questions:

1. If you could eat only one food dish for the rest of your life, what would it be?

2. Someone purposefully damages a book/game in front of you, how do you react?

3. What is your spirit animal?

4. If you could force your arch nemesis to only play one video game for the rest of their life, what would it be?

5. What is your favorite piece of clothing?

6. Zap! You’ve just been teleported to your favorite fantasy realm, what is it?

7. If you had to die by shark, bear or lion, what would it be?

8. What book/game series would you drop ANY amount of money on?

9. If you could have any tattoo, from the best artist, without worrying about cost, what would it be?

10. How did I do with these questions?

My nominees:  (I have zero expectations for anyone else to follow through just because I decided to start actually tagging people.)

  1. I have to admit I haven’t watched that much anime, but Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood was incredible.

Even as someone who has never finished Final Fantasy VII, I know that’s a great choice.

I have to admit I didn’t give that question much thought. Most of my own favorite franchises are either still going or definitively concluded.

There were certain albums such as the Red House Painters’ first eponymous album I had a lot of trouble finding. It involved periodically looking at Amazon and hoping the seller mixed up their listing. When one did, I took that opportunity immediately.

The people in my community tend to be pretty quiet in theaters – even when the theaters are crowded, so I’ve only rarely had that problem of people not shutting up when the film starts. I can certainly understand your frustration though; especially when parents don’t have the self-consciousness to remove their talkative/crying child from the theater.

I can safely conclude that critics didn’t like 50 Shades of Gray all that much.

That’s probably for the best given the critical circle’s overly egotistical headspace as of late.

Oh, have you played the original Warcraft?

I do feel that video game critics, though not lacking in problems, are overall more reliable than film critics. A film critic can get caught up in visuals to the point where they forget to parse the story whereas video game critics are better at proving why, from an objective standpoint, things do/don’t work.

I find I’m a bit strange in that hype barely factors into how I feel about a work. If anything, I’ve praised works with strong followings more often than having bashed them. That said, a work considered a classic needs to earn its points like everything else.

    1. I have not played Warcraft.
It pleases me that the critics also did not like 50 Shades.
I really just never read reviews of films/games/ books (other than on wordpress because I feel like these are more ‘real’ people than those who do it professionally.)
I don’t go to the movies often but I feel like every time I do, there is one obnoxious asshole and honestly, it’s rarely kids. The most obnoxious was the dad that laughed loudly at EVERY SINGLE thing Deadpool said.

  2. Just so you know, you have to link to an actual page on someone’s site if you want them to be notified.

Other than that, I’m glad you chose a bunch of new questions. I’m not into videogames and I don’t care two figs for critics…

    1. Yes! I love being swaddled in blankets while watching movies. Although, there is one cool theater by us that you can drink and bring blankets too. (They also have recliners.) So if I do go out to the movies, that’s the only theater I go to.

      1. Oh now that’s my sort of cinema!
There’s one not so far from us, but they usually show weird movies or are comletely sold out for the cool stuff.
I managed to find tickets for Saturday tho for The Favourite, so i’m taking the BF. He’s most excited about the blanket & hot dogs tho 😀 😀

      2. There’s another one a little farther away that plays old cult classics like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and such. I’ve never gone but I should at least try it once.
Blankets/food/beer/movie is the only way to really enjoy a film!

  3. I have no idea about tags but I’m happy to answer your questions haha

    1. I would eat pancakes all day everyday but I’d be doing the cooking. Mine are stodgy as Fu#% just the way I like em oh and coated in butter and maple syrup. Jesus H Christ hand me some eggs and a whisk right now Robin, Batman is making pancakes!!!!!!!!

    2. Ummm depends on the game or book. If it was the bible I’d have the lighter fluid and matches ready too. If it was Tuesdays with Morry I’d punch the goon square in the nose and steal the book.

    3. My spirit animal? What the crap? Oh yeah hang on yours is an owl right? Ok ok ok ok ummmm is a a zombie an animal? I don’t really go in for that kind of stuff but my favourite animals are Apes, Lions and otters, yep otters. I watched a doco on them as a kid and then pretended to be one for like four weeks.

    4. That really old tennis game where it was just white lines and a white dot. Bip… bip… bip… booooop. Ahahahahahhshsshhsjsjajajaaaaaa

    5. All my hats are my favourite things to wear. I really want a bowler and top hat for my collection. My wife also just bought me some really comfortable and colourful jocks haha. They’re kinda cool.

    6. The world of warhammer 40,000 would be pretty cool but also quite unnerving because there’s only war!

    7. Haha. Great question. Well, as I mentioned I like Lions a lot so I’ll say Lion because at least I’d get to admire how cool he is as he was devouring me. I bet Miss Moth says Shark!

    8. Umm hmm? If someone like you was to write a book I’d be happy to donate money for the cause and buy the book/series. I know right I’m pretty bloody nice. I even open doors for little old ladies… they just happen to be car doors while I’m driving at 100mph

    9. Oh yeah! Nice question. Anything and I mean anything by the tattoo artist simply known as XOIL. He is one unique brother. Check his work out. I’d be a willing and open canvas for anything that came to his mind.

    10. Your questions kept me interested which is not always easy as I’m very easily distracted. One time a girl was telling me her life story and I suddenly stood up excited and pointed at a double decker bus that went by. Plenty of those in the UK where I was born but not many here in Australia where I live. Haha. Needless to say she chose never to be my girlfriend. Yeahhhhh I like double decker buses. 👍🏼

    1. Ahahaha! These were all amazing answers. You’re definitely an otter. Ms. Moth and I went through a phase where we constantly played otters in her pool.
The way tags usually work is you post your answers on your blog and then tag more people to answer your questions. Doesn’t really matter though, I said I wasn’t forcing anyone into it. 😛
In all fairness, I would have been distracted by a double decker bus, but we don’t have those. D:

  4. I loved reading this! I’m like you and would rather watch a movie at home anymore. I don’t really like large groups of people, but enjoy matinees which seem to be more quiet. Thanks for tagging me! Great questions. ❤💗❤

  5. Oooh, look at you doing an award/tag AND tagging other people! 😉
Haha Thanks for the tag, lady! ❤ Looking forward to you doing more of these posts! 😀
I already started a draft for this, too, so I don't forget to do it!

  6. Your answer about the game soundtrack tells me I was wise with this friendship. I cannot stand when people talk during movies they know I haven’t seen. Usually theater going doesn’t cause too many problems, since most people have paid to be there (and if they haven’t, they’re not going to draw attention to themselves), but I’m also an antisocial asshole so enjoying films at home is my jam.

    1. Haha! Well I may not play the game but I’ve listened to that music more times than I can count and it is beautiful. I feel like every time we actually go out to the movies anymore, there is always some asshole who insists on talking. (At least at first.)
