The Outstanding Blogger Award

Thank you The Corner of Flaura for tagging me!

The Rules

  1. Provide the link to the creator’s original award post. (very important: see why in step 5)
  2. Answer the questions provided.
  3. Create 7 unique questions.
  4. Nominate 10 bloggers. Ensure that they are aware of their nomination. Neither the award’s creator, nor the blogger that nominated you, can be nominated.
  5. At the end of 2020, every blog that ping-backs the creator’s original post will be entered to win the 2020 Outstanding Blogger Award!

Questions:

  1. Would you rather travel to the deep sea or outer space?

Could you ask a more difficult question?? I mean………..crap. I think I’m going to have to choose deep sea but you should feel bad for making me think so hard about this. I want to see all the sea critters. I want to see space critters too but I think I’m guaranteed a few sea critters. Aliens, please make contact soon because, why not?

2. Are you artistic?

Is ‘sort of’ an acceptable answer? I can do STUFF. Just not anything particularly GOOD.

3. How many books did you read last year?

Forty.

4. If you could live any one historical figures life, which would you choose?

I think I’m going to have to choose the Notorious RBG.

5. Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter?

Autumnnnnn.

6. Which character in a book would you most like to be?

Full fantasy mode with this one, Julia (aka Aurelia Ryder) in the Kate Daniels series. I dig her powers, her attitude and her obviously future mate. (But I’d like to stay a brunette please.)

This were some pretty fun questions so I’m going to keep them for my tagged peeps:

Ignited Moth

The Shameful Narcissist

Imperial Rebel Ork

Grab the Lapels

Bookstooge

Anyone else who would like to jump in, feel free!

I can’t believe I actually got around to doing one of these. I’m just not a good tagged person, I frequently forget about them. :3

Underrated Ladies! Tag

I’m in one of those pissed at the world moods in which getting anything productive accomplished is a struggle. But somehow, it makes it the best time to catch up on at least one tag that a lovely blogger was kind enough to tag me in. I could use a little feminine appreciation to brighten my day so here we go ladies and gents:

The very awesome blog Livid Lightning is getting my ping back since she introduced me to this tag. 😀

Rules (I will try to follow, but no one’s the boss of me on my blog)

  • PingBack to Kate at Melting Pots and Other Calamities and pingback to a post of hers (I guess she’s the creator of this tag thingy? Good for her!)
  • Answer the questions (That’s the point of these tags thingys, no? See below!)
  • Choose female characters from books, movies, TV, anime, webtoons, etc. (I’ll try my best)
  • Tag as many people (We’ll see…)
  • Have fun! (No doubt)

Questions:

Name a heroine you like but whom you feel is always overshadowed by the male characters in the story.

Ka-Poel from the Powder Mage trilogy. She’s from a tribe and is essentially Taniel’s personal spotter and later servant but she’s so much more than that. She’s a force of her own with her own magic and tricks up her sleeve. She’s clever and feisty and never lets Taniel down.

For that matter, name a heroine whom you feel is always overshadowed by the other female characters in the story.

Peryn’s little monster sister. That’s right, she’s over shadowed enough that I don’t remember her name. But she’s a great character, she gets some show time but I would have liked to see her even more throughout the series.

Name a character who had potential but was greatly underutilized in her story.

Constance Stapleton comes more into focus in this installment of the Golgotha series, however, I still think she’s being underutilized though it appears that may change in the future.

Name a female character who you either find better in her book than her movie, find better in her movie than her book, or whose portrayals you find equal.

Offred (June) from The Handmaid’s Tale is SO much better in the TV series than the book. In the book, she’s actually rather bland and kind of hard to read from her point of view. In the show, her rebellion, her determination and her overall character keep me coming back again and again.

Name a character who you want more backstory on.

Adelia Reyes, the femme fatale assassin. I just want more of this whole universe in general!

Name a character with traits you feel are sadly overlooked by everyone.

Arya Stark is the very first that comes to mind. Although, it’s usually her enemies that overlook her traits and they pay the ultimate price. But,I feel her own siblings overlook her quite often as well.

Name a morally grey character. (Villain or anti hero!)

The Morrigan from the Iron Druid Chronicles. She does some pretty shitty things but a lot of the time she also tips off Atticus to danger. Sometimes, she’s the danger.

A character you’re stunned isn’t more famous.

Stealing this answer from Lightning. Hail is such a bad ass heroine, but somehow I don’t know that many people who have read this series. It’s a high recommend from me if you enjoy space operas.

A character from a piece of fiction you’re amazed isn’t more famous.

Temple grew up during the time of zombies. She’s been on her own for most of it. This is a great story of a teenager surviving the zombie apocalypse on her own, fighting both the dead and the living.

Fantastic Female Bloggers

I’m going to try to tag people Lightning didn’t already tag so we can spread this fun out a bit more, but don’t feel obligated to participate by any means. This is meant to be fun!

Sunshine Blogger Award from Extra Life

I was nominated for this award by Extra Life and what good timing! I recently thought to myself that I really suck at doing and keeping up on tags and that I would change that this year. I’ve also decided not to be lazy and actually tag people to do them so watch out motha fuckas! I’m about to annoy your pants off. I’m married to a gamer but I do not consider myself a gamer, so this should prove difficult.

In which cases would you deem the manga superior to the anime on which it’s based?

Oooo, I cannot answer this one as I don’t recall ever sitting down and reading a single manga. I’m very picky about anime as well but I have watched and enjoyed; Inuyasha, Desert Punk and Fullmetal Alchemist.

What game do you feel has the best soundtrack?

Final Fantasy VII

If you could revive a dead video game series, which one would you choose?

Fuck if I know….every game I can think of that I enjoy they’ve either remastered or have continued making games.

What game/film/album/book did you have a particularly difficult time adding to your collection?

Quite a few of the true crime books I recently added to my TBR list seem to be no longer in production. Some don’t even have ebooks available. Now I can’t think of the name of them. I’m really good at tags.

Do you prefer to see a film at home or in the theater?

I haaaate it when people talk during a movie, so my preference is at home where it’s acceptable to tell someone to shut the fuck up if they’re talking.

In what cases do you find yourself siding with critics over fans about a work’s quality?

The first thing that comes to mind is 50 Shades of Gray. I actually have no idea what the critics said about the books or the films but I hate the fandom surrounding it.

In what cases did you find yourself siding with fans over critics about a work’s quality?

Eh, you’re killing me with these questions. I really never pay attention to critics and I only listen to other people I know and respect about their opinions.

Which game series have you been following for the longest amount of time?

World of Warcraft. I played for about 7 years and I still keep up about the going ons every once in awhile but it’s been about 3 years since I played the game at all.

In what ways do you feel that video game critics are ahead of their film-loving counterparts?

In the film, everything is diluted down to fit a small time slot, where as books and games delve much deeper into the worlds. SO I would be willing to argue that video game critics are much more knowledgeable (and therefore more trustworthy) than film critics.

How does hype factor into how you ultimately feel about a work?

Too much hype tends to leave me feeling disappointed. I find when I go into something with zero expectations, my experience is much more authentic and therefore, more enjoyable.

My questions:

1. If you could eat only one food dish for the rest of your life, what would it be?

2. Someone purposefully damages a book/game in front of you, how do you react?

3. What is your spirit animal?

4. If you could force your arch nemesis to only play one video game for the rest of their life, what would it be?

5. What is your favorite piece of clothing?

6. Zap! You’ve just been teleported to your favorite fantasy realm, what is it?

7. If you had to die by shark, bear or lion, what would it be?

8. What book/game series would you drop ANY amount of money on?

9. If you could have any tattoo, from the best artist, without worrying about cost, what would it be?

10. How did I do with these questions?

My nominees:  (I have zero expectations for anyone else to follow through just because I decided to start actually tagging people.)

Three Things Tag!

Judas Priest, I have not felt like blogging lately. I sat down to do this last night and promptly decided, fuck that. My reading has been slow and I’ve had a damn hard time finding the supplies for my new hobby I’m trying to take up and it’s all making me incredibly grouchy.

Anywho, enough grouchin’. Onto this fun tag that Ignited Moth shared.

3 READ ONCE & LOVED AUTHORS:

patty_briggs_4_sm

Patricia Briggs. This lady writes one of my favorite urban fantasies. The Mercy Thompson series. She also has a few other epic fantasy novels that I’m slowly working on. When I started the Mercy series, I read everything that had been released back to back, which something I never do with series.

3312940

R.S. Belcher. I feel like this author is not very well known and he so very deserves to be. When I read The Six-Gun Tarot – Book Review, it knocked me on my ass.

200062432

Debut author Sarah Gailey really struck a chord with me when I read American Hippo. I just cannot wait to see what she comes up with next. (Although, I so very hope it is in the American Hippo world!)

3 TITLES I’VE WATCHED BUT HAVEN’T READ:

3 CHARACTERS YOU LOVE:

Prince Jorg Ancrath from the Broken Empire trilogy by Mark Lawrence. He’s the extreme anti-hero. The very best anti-hero I’ve read thus far.

Maude Stapleton from the Golgotha series by R.S. Belcher. She belongs to a secret order of female bad asses.

Darrow from the Red Rising series. He’s such a conflicted character. He makes a lot of mistakes but he learns from them. Great character growth.

3 BINGED SERIES:

lesbooks_zps6c776c00

picmonkey-collage

grisha-trilogy

I don’t binge read series often, there is usually something in between every book but these three series are probably the closest I’ve come.

3 UNPOPULAR BOOKISH OPINIONS

  1. I’m going to steal Ignited Moth’s answer here. I’ve never understood people’s problems with prologues. To me, it’s just another chapter, on with the story!
  2. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. I understand the reasoning, I really do. I’ve read some great books with horrible cover art BUT I still judged it hard before I read it.
  3. Erotica sucks.

3 CURRENT FAVORITE BOOKS COVERS:

3 GOALS FOR THE YEAR

Ooof, that took a turn to un-book related territory.

One, save enough money for our vacation in December to really enjoy ourselves and not have to worry about the bank account.

Two, get my hands on some pallets so I can start this damn woodworking project I’ve been dying to get into.

Three, start planning my goals for next year. It’s right around the corner!

Okay kids, this is where  you tag yourself to have a little fun and spread the tag love.

Currently Reading Tag

Well hell, I’ll fit in one more blog post before the end of the year. The lovely Mischenko tagged me in this fun little questionnaire, and if you have not checked out her blog yet, you should. I mean it’s called Read Rant Rock & Roll., why wouldn’t you follow her??

How many books do you usually read at one?

At maximum, two. Most of the time I only read one but sometimes I’ll have a physical book and then a Kindle book going at the same time. Anymore than that and one book isn’t getting finished for a very long time.
