Wizard and the Bruiser + Page 7 Live

At this point, you’ve heard me mention Last Podcast on the Left, several times. What you haven’t heard me mention, is that they have a whole podcast network. While not every podcast is my jam, the two mentioned in the title are a couple of my other favorites. Their subject matter is completely different than their parent podcast.

Wizard and the Bruiser is hosted by Holden and Jake. They take deep dives into various subjects in nerd culture. For example some of their episodes have included; Invader Zim, Smash Brothers, Junji Ito and Zelda. It’s a different form of edu-tainment than the true crime series. Informational and fun.

Page 7 is your pop culture fun zone. Hosted by Jackie, Molly and Holden, they discuss the latest celebrity gossip and deep dives into pop culture subjects. While pop culture is not one of my favorite subjects, the hosts are so damn funny that I don’t care what subject they talk about, I’ll listen.

Which brings me to to their live show that we attended last night in Pontiac, MI. I’ve never laughed so hard. While LPOTL is great, I definitely laughed harder at this show. Their energy was great and they fed off of the crowd. It was a smaller venue so we easily had great seats.

Jackie, queen of the stage.

After the show, my husband spoke with Jake and Holden briefly. Me? I lurked in the shadows. I never know what to say to people that they don’t hear a million times. My resort is just telling them that I love them and to thank them for coming to our area. My anxiety level sky rockets at even this amount of interaction.

Then, we waited to meet the queen herself, Jackie Zebrowski. There may not be a funnier, nicer person on the planet. By the time it was our turn to meet her, my anxiety dissipated and sank into Mr. C&M. So for once, he was the awkward one and I was fine. Lmao. She’s seriously such a warm person and has no problem striking up a conversation with anyone. We chatted for a few minutes, she graciously took a picture with us, hugged us super hard and thanked us for making it out to the show and showing our support.

If you haven’t checked out either of these podcasts and one or both appeal to you, I highly recommend that you give them a try. And if they tour anywhere near you, check out their live show. Your cheeks will hurt from laughing after.

Last Podcast on the Left – Detroit

Mr. C&M and I simply refer to our favorite podcasters ever as, The Boys. The boys came to Michigan for the first time December 6th and despite already seeing the show for this tour back in March, we had to represent for our state so that they would keep coming back.

Totally worth it. It may have been the same show but the jokes were 20 times better. We were laughing our asses off the whole way through.

If you’ve never attended one of their shows, first, fix that. Second, here’s their formula for success:

Henry dons his Mufon gear and tells us about some alien encounters:

Marcus covers crytids. This year’s was most special as it’s a legend for our state, the Dogman:

Ben gives us some professional wrestling stories which I do not have pictures of.

To round up a quality show, there has to be a little conspiracy theory action. This year’s involving Mama Cass of The Mamas & The Papas.

We also had much better seats at this show since we bought them the day they were released. I’m fairly certain that the show sold out, so hopefully they hit Michigan on their next tour too.

If you need a new podcast to edu-tain you, then I highly recommend the boys.

Fly on the Wall Podcast

Ello mates! Just dropping a post to inform you that the incorrigible Imperial Rebel Ork was kind enough to read one of my book reviews on his podcast, Fly on the Wall. His cohort Waz, reads it in a fun “Michigan” accent.

It’s a fun little podcast that is quickly gaining speed. So if you’re looking for something that will make you laugh, and may be considered slightly offensive at times, this is definitely the podcast for you.

Last Podcast on the Left Live

After about a year of exploring podcasts, there has been a clear winner, at least for me.

Last Podcast on the Left covers all the bases. Serial killers, true crime, UFOs, paranormal and cryptozoology. They mix facts with humor, sometimes making the very dark subject matter more easy to digest. They’ve become a household name….in this house. My husband has listened to every single episode as I’ve been slowing working through everything new they put out and catching up on the old stuff too.

So when they announced a live tour, with the nearest stop to Michigan being Cleveland, we bought tickets immediately. It was worth every penny and we’ll go see them anytime they come that close. It was my first comedy show and I laughed a LOT. (This is important as every time I’ve watched a comedian do stand up on TV, I maybe laugh out loud once….if they’re good.)

Now, I’ll be the first to admit, this podcast probably isn’t for everyone. If you don’t like swearing and dark subjects, stay away. Some people have accused them of being into murder porn because they really hit the details in every case, but as they’ve recently pointed out, thanks to the new Bundy tapes documentary on Netflix, the reason why they do is to show just what horrific monsters these people are/were. You may think, they’re serial killers of course they’re terrible, who would think otherwise? The answer: too many fucking people. For example, Netflix had to come out and tell people to stop romanticizing Ted Bundy (something that was an issue during his actual trial as well), but this was partially their fault. No where in the entire documentary did they say anything about his murders other than he committed them. They didn’t mention the rape, or the necrophilia. So I digress back to Last Podcast, they’re going to give you every single detail so you know exactly what kind of monster you’re hearing about.

The live show was much more light-hearted and fun. They talked about murder conspiracies, UFOs, and cryptids. The tour will run across the globe for most of the year and then they’ll probably do a recording available to purchase at the end of the year (like they did this past December) and next year, a new tour with new subjects.

If this all sounds up your alley, I highly recommend giving them a try.

Intense banter.

Henry gets his Mufon on to talk UFO sightings.

Podcasts + Audible

I have recently (in the last week) gotten into podcasts. There are only about one million of them so finding decent ones has been a little more difficult than I intended. Specifically, Sci-Fi and Fantasy book related. So my question for you gentle friends is, what podcast would you suggest for those two genres?

If you know of other good podcasts, non-book related, feel free to shoot me those too.

The podcasts I’ve enjoyed so far; The Scathing Atheist, Serial Killers and Godawful Movies.

Onto my next inquiry. I have very little time these days to look into things very far (working overtime every week) so I’m requesting your experienced knowledge. Is Audible worth $14.95 per month? Or should I only buy audible books that I’m interested in? (The one book I checked the audible price on was $25.95. Is that normal pricing for a single book?)

Thank you for your input!
