Coffee & a Chat – From Novels to Textbooks

First book haul of 2021. All from the dollar store. A whopping $3.18 was spent.

I didn’t accomplish much this week aside from working. No new recipes, no book reviews. Hell, I barely even read the current book I’m working on. I’m a bit ‘meh’ on it currently and don’t know if I’ll finish it.

There were a few other things accomplished though;

I received my second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. This time, the side effects kicked my ass. Super sleepy, achy, hot flashes and cold sweats (no fever though) and a minor headache. I felt like an old woman going through menopause. I started feeling super tired the night of the vaccine, didn’t sleep too well and felt like garbage for about 12 hours the next day. The day after that, I felt normal again. 10/10 would do it again though.

As of this morning, I applied to go back to college. There is a recent initiative provided by my state for adults to go back to school to earn a degree where they pay for your tuition fees. Years ago, I went to community college with the intention of getting a degree in small business administration. For a myriad of reasons, I never finished. Now, I’m going back to earn a degree in business administration – associate of arts. The way I see it, it will help the small business that I currently work for and any future enterprise I may start myself. (see last post.)

I should start back to school in May so I’m sure you’ll see a decline in posts then but I’m hoping to be more organized and be able to balance life and school better than I did back in the day.

So that’s it for this week folks, did anyone else get the first or second dose of the Covid vaccine? What were your side effects if anything?

      1. As a side note, I personally recommend ye read the Leckie trilogy before provenance. The fourth book is technically a standalone but is so much richer if ye know what happens in the others as it sort of turns what ye think ye know sideways.

    1. What a coincidence, I’m 33. πŸ˜€
I’m getting super excited about it. There are a few literature elective classes that I can choose from during the course and I have to do 2 writing classes so I think it will keep me on my toes. πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks! I’m already planning on how to be more organized to ensure efficiency and productivity. πŸ™‚ I’m going to have to figure out how I learn best after so long of only reading non-fictions here and there and doing continuing education to keep my pharmacy tech license active. πŸ™‚

  1. I only know people who got their first dose, though I did email with a writer who said she got her second dose and didn’t feel good for a few days. She had taken two naps that day. I know she’s older, though, so that might make a difference. I keep wondering why this vaccine has so many side effects compared to every other one I’ve gotten. It reminds me of what I hear about the vaccines people get to travel to non-Western countries.

    1. I’ve just been kind of equating it to how the virus effects people differently as well. It’s definitely bizarre but I feel lucky to have gotten it. Most people who I have talked to about their second dose said it for sure effected them more than the first. I barely had any side effects with the first one other than a little tired and ravenously hungry while my immune system was in overdrive.

  2. I’ve heard there were side effects! One of my friends got her first dose and so far seems ok. Sorry that the side effects were so bad but at least you’re all vaccinated now. πŸ™‚

  3. Happy to hear you are okay and recovering from the side effects. I have a friend that is a kid wife so she had her doses a few weeks ago. She chronicles the effects and it looked bad but now she’s hopping about pulling out babies again! That’s awesome you’re going back to school and good luck ☺️

  4. Omg that is fucking awesome! You should be proud of yourself because I sure as hell am. That’s great your state is doing that (as they should be), and you’re really taking your idea and running with it e.g. not just talking about it, but making the steps. I’m 100% in your corner girl β™₯

Ugh, I’ve heard that about the vaccine, BUT it also means it’s working if you feel like shit lol. Plus it’s obviously preferable to having the rona. I might actually wait just because I don’t HAVE to be in public at all (haven’t left the house since Christmas). I need to go get some blood work and doctor appointments in, but on a day to day basis I don’t need to be out and I feel like there are others who should get it before I do because they’re literally in the thick of it.

    1. Thank you!! ❀ I just got my acceptance email last night, πŸ˜€ I didn't really expect them to reject me since it's community college but there was still some nervous paranoia. :3 I start back in May and I am PUMPED.
It was rough but 100% worth it. How is your state doing with the vaccine roll out? Michigan has been pretty spotty. I get about 20 to sometimes 40 calls a day at work asking if we've gotten them in yet or know when we are. That's awesome that you don't have to leave anywhere there. I wish I could do that just because of all the dumb people outside. D:

      1. It’s still good to know it’s official! When do you start?

I actually don’t know; I’d have to check. I have heard if you’re offered one take it because they only last so long so long and will go to waste.

That’s why I’m not in as much of a rush to get one. Because there are people who HAVE to be out in public and since they’re in shorter supply (for now) I can afford to wait. I’m hoping it becomes more organized soon.

      2. Yasss. I love planners. They give me the illusion that I have everything together :p In all honestly having one in college was integral to any success I had. As long as I followed what was on the planner I could keep up.

  5. I absolutely love that you made this amazing plan to open your own badass book store and then BAM! this Michigan Reconnect thing happens so you can go back to school for business with free tuition. ❀ Perfect timing. You're clearly meant to own the coolest book store in all the land! πŸ˜€

    1. Haha, I hope so! I think at least once a day I plan things for it in the future. Pop up shops from local artists and authors. Paint schemes. Book arrangements/selection. Lol. And now that you’re going to school for graphic design, I know who to hire for all the signs, bookmarks, business cards, etc. πŸ˜‰

      1. Yasssss! I love ALL of that! ❀ If you're not doing it already, you should write all these ideas down in a special notebook or something so you don't lose or forget any of them! πŸ˜€
