Third Week of October

Ugh, where does the time go? How can it already be so close to the end of the best month of the year??

Despite being absolutely burned out from work, I did manage to accomplish a few things. The dream is always to accomplish more but alas, this little body needs some fucking rest. I need life to slow down for a hot minute so I can catch up.

I finished my book club selection for the month, Boy Erased: A Memoir of Identity, Family and Faith – Book Review and then I snuck in another horror classic, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde – Book Review.

No horror movies this week but we did decide to give Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House a try. We are two episodes in and while it’s okay, there isn’t much drawing us back to it.

If you want something incredibly good, dark and disturbing, I’ll suggest trying my new favorite show:

One of the few times I will say that the show is better than the book.

What Halloween shenanigans have you spooky folks been up to?? Are you ready for Halloween??

  1. Uh, i love the pumpkin pancakes!! 🙂
Haven’t read Haunting of Hill House, but i think i will skip straight to the TV series. Also need to watch S2 of Handmaid’s Tale…

I’ve been reading spooky-ish books this weeks 😀

    1. I haven’t read the book and since I’ve been working on other horror classics, I’m okay with it. I pulled out my complete collection of Edgar Allen Poe yesterday, I think his short stories are going to be my jam for the week.

  2. Oh Christ! How good is handmaids tale? My wife and I love it. We watched two seasons in about three days haha. Brilliant. So unique. I’ve never read the book or seen the movie from the 90s but apparently the book is ace and the movie is shite. Soooo good. The lead actress does an amazing job and I like that she’s. Or stunningly beautiful or butt ugly. She really suits the role. I read somewhere that everything that happens in the series is written in the Old Testament. Scary.

    1. I freaking love the show. (I’m getting close to the end of season 2 now.) I did read the book and it was okay but the show is so much better. (I did not see the movie from the 90’s.) In the last episode I was watching I was yelling at the TV, cheering for a certain handmaid’s revenge. 😉

  3. All of my IRL friends are cuckoo for The Haunting of Hill House and how terrifying it is. I haven’t watched any of it yet, because I’m a weird ass who’ll pass on things if they’re too hyped. I don’t know why I’m like this. I HATE that pretentious attitude and I don’t knock people for hopping on popular bandwagons (because I still do it with some stuff), but yeah, if I see too much of something, I need the hype to die down. Then I was worried it would be too scary for me, and I’m a wuss, but I have been watching Silent Hill, which isn’t scary at lol. It’s just creepy. How many episodes is it?

    1. I think it’s 10 or 12 episodes and it is not scary AT ALL. (Unless you scare incredibly easy.) I jumped one time in the whole series and got pretty bored more than a few. It’s really just the original haunted house tale. It’s not something that I’m going to tell people, “You really gotta watch this.”
I understand holding off on things that are hyped too much. When there is SO much hype it’s easy to feel underwhelmed once you actually see it.
